Our safety | transparency | privacy values are fundamental to everything we do, akin to Asimov’s three laws of robotics, each is built upon the previous
Asimov’s three laws of robotics
1: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law
3: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law
He then spent decades showing how the rules no matter how good intentioned, failed to stop the robots! Even adding a Zeroth Law (superseding all the others) a robot may not harm humanity or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm… we get the irony, but you gotta try right?
Simply put, we’re not interested in knowing who our users are (unless you’re a bad actor that is, play nice & so will we) with the aim to gather data to leverage for third parties and advertisers. Our aim is to create a safe open place for everyone, to achieve this we believe we need to have an entirely open platform, with no hidden, locked away or private spaces or accounts, everything is accessible by everyone… So how can we be transparent & private?
We are not an “identity provider” we currently support Apple & Google (we will roll out more in the future). This is an approach we took from Tailscale We gather the bare minimum of information about anyone using our platform to ensure a safe environment for all, that’s our only purpose. We DO NOT create or retain usernames or passwords, only Apple & Google retain that information, they in turn supply us with a token confirming they’ve verified a user
This approach keeps users identities private, plus adds another layer of security, should we ever suffer a hack or data breach, no names, emails or passwords could be collected, as we don’t have any to store!
But how do we keep everyone safe if we don’t know who anyone really is?
MEMBER TIERS
REGISTERED (FREE): Able to upload a limited number of images, which are quarantined before being posted publicly, unable to comment or vote
VALIDATED (FREE): Have amassed credibility through good behaviour, still pass through quarantine, but are fast tracked as a valued member of LENSHOOD
VERIFIED: (Nominal one off payment for ID check) Their real world ID is known too & has been verified by their “Identity Provider” (yet still unknown to us). Uploads increased & fast tracked through quarantine
SUBSCRIBERS & PRO: are VERIFIED users, able to comment, use forums, vote, create HOODS & generally interact with others freely. Quarantine is expedited
ADVOCATES: Trusted VERIFIED members, think VERIFIED+
VETTED: Known to us directly, highly trusted can speak on behalf of LENSHOOD
LENSHOOD: Staff
